This paper aimed at quantifying economic and agricultural losses since the start of Russia-Ukraine War, via remotely sensed data and statistics. Machine learning was used to classify major crops in Ukraine, this generated a crop classification map. Maps of nighttime lights in Ukraine from 2019-2022 are used to identify relationships in areas that lose lighting, and NDVI differences.
The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is a popular metric for quantifying the health and density of vegetation using remotely sensed data. A quantitative regression analysis was used to assess crop production. More specifically, a fixed effects model was used to demonstrate association between losses of agricultural production and the war. A multiple linear regression model was used to study change s in crop production.
